Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Wednesday's all-day MLB slate begins at 12:10 PM Eastern time and features all 30 teams. The pitching recommendations in this one contain one top-line option and one affordable option on a hot streak, and they're joined by a group of hitters all primed to capitalize on favorable matchups while costing no more than $18.

PITCHER

Jordan Zimmermann, DET at TB ($36): His performance has flown under the radar, but Zimmermann's been dealing lately. The 32-year-old righty has rediscovered the form that helped him go 33-14 during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns with the Nationals, allowing just two earned runs over his past three starts while posting a 20:1 K:BB in 20 innings. Zimmermann's undefeated campaign is likely to stay intact against a Rays offense that averages just 3.97 runs per contest, especially with this matchup taking place at Tropicana Field. The oddly-designed venue has a decidedly pitcher-friendly tilt, with features like home run-blocking speakers contributing to its 0.92 park factor.

Lance McCullers Jr., HOU vs. OAK ($49): Like most of Houston's staff, McCullers takes his game to a whole different level at the pitcher-friendly Minute Maid Park (0.88 park factor). On the road, McCullers has a pedestrian 4.24 ERA and .314 wOBA allowed, but those numbers plummet to 2.47 and .236, respectively, in Houston's pitchers' paradise. He's already 3-0 against Oakland this season, including seven innings of two-hit, shutout ball during their lone meeting in the Lone Star State.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SF vs. CHC ($16): Posey's been his usual excellent self against lefties this season, producing a .378 wOBA that's not too far from his .400 career mark in that split. Don't expect him to slow down at home against scuffling Cubs southpaw Mike Montgomery, who has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) in 16 innings over his past three starts.

FIRST BASE

Logan Morrison, MIN vs. KC ($13): Morrison's in the midst of a down year, but he bashed 38 home runs and posted a .374 wOBA against righties just last season. He still bats in the heart of Minnesota's order, and the left-handed slugger won't find a better opportunity to get his mojo back than this date with Royals righty Burch Smith. Smith has allowed a .391 wOBA to batters from the left side in his career while splitting time between bullpen and starting roles.

SECOND BASE

Jason Kipnis, CLE vs. CIN ($17): Reds starter Tyler Mahle has been a bit better lately, but left-handed hitters still have a robust .396 wOBA against him this season. Kipnis has a .342 career wOBA against righties and went deep in Monday's series opener, so the veteran second baseman is set up for further success in this favorable matchup.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD at SD ($17): Turner's absolutely crushed left-handed pitching over a limited sample this season, producing a .424 wOBA and 11 walks in 51 plate appearances. Considering he posted a .484 mark in that split last season, the veteran slugger is unlikely to slow down against rookie San Diego southpaw Joey Lucchesi, who has a 4.40 FIP.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY at BAL ($16): Orioles righty Dylan Bundy has had trouble with left-handed hitters, surrendering a .374 wOBA to the 213 he's faced this season. Gregorius is primed to capitalize on that weakness given his .344 wOBA against righties and fantasy-friendly spot in the heart of the Yankees lineup.

OUTFIELD

Harrison Bader, STL at CWS ($11): Bader isn't one of the bigger names in St. Louis' lineup, but he deserves as much consideration as any of his teammates against White Sox lefty Carlos Rodon. In 63 at-bats against left-handed pitching this season, Bader's produced a .389 wOBA. Meanwhile, Rodon's allowed a .342 wOBA to batters from the right side in his career and has a 5.62 FIP in 2018.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. ARI ($17): Despite going deep in half of his past six games, Blackmon remains quite affordable at just $17. With Coors Field's 1.38 park factor backing him, Colorado's two-hole hitter is primed for another big game against Arizona righty Shelby Miller. In three major-league starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, Miller's been shelled for 16 runs (14 earned) over 14 innings.

Mitch Haniger, SEA at LAA ($18): Rookie Angels righty Jaime Barria has limited left-handed batters to a .252 wOBA, but he's been burned in righty-on-righty situations to the tune of a .387 mark. Haniger's the perfect guy to take advantage of those splits -- his .362 wOBA against right-handed pitching is better than the right-handed slugger's .357 mark against lefties. That trend has been more lopsided over the course of Haniger's career, as his .363 lifetime wOBA against righties is .040 higher than his number against lefties.
