Demarcus Evans

Command issues kept Evans from a late-season call-up in 2019, but with nothing to lose, the Rangers gave him a look this past September. It was only four innings, but Evans showed flashes with an O-Swing rate north of 40%. While the balls he put in the strike zone were barreled up well, Evans likely put himself on the inside track for a bullpen spot entering 2021. A reliever exclusively at the upper levels of the minors, Evans gets good spin on his fastball, making up for just average velocity, and his curveball looks to have real potential. His strikeout rates in the minors point to a future in the late innings for Texas if Evans can learn to put the ball where he wants on a somewhat consistent basis. The fact that he was attacking hitters and did not issue a single free pass in his debut is an encouraging sign that he's growing to trust his stuff.
