Williams Perez

Perez beat out John Gant in spring training to earn the fifth spot in the Braves' starting rotation but wasn't able to hold onto it for long. The young righty was demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett after posting a 5.11 ERA and 6:8 K:BB through his first three starts with the club. After three solid starts at Triple-A (including a complete game one-hitter), Perez was recalled to the majors, where he rejoined the Braves' rotation following Jhoulys Chacin's departure to the Angels. He only made eight more starts over the remainder of the season, as he was plagued with a rotator cuff strain that caused him to miss nearly three months and ended up finishing the year on the shelf with an elbow impingement. His final season stats are less than stellar, as he finished with a measly 11.6 percent strikeout percentage over 53.2 innings. One bright spot was his impressive 6.4 percent walk rate. He was released by the Braves in the offseason, which may speak to the severity of the elbow issue. He did latch on with the Cubs shortly thereafter, though, but he likely projects as an organizational depth piece until he proves his elbow is 100 percent.
