Nick Hein

Sergeant

Germany

Runs into battering ram
LightweightUFC
June 1, 2019
Hein lost to Frank Camacho via TKO (punches) at 4:56 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night 153 in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Hein has garnered a reputation as a powerful striker, but he is a one-shot counter-fighter by nature, which left him completely on an island against the barrage attack from Camacho. Add in his tendency to shell up when hit cleanly, and the result is a bad outcome for "The Sergeant." Hein started out strong in his UFC career but has now dropped three fights in a row (two by stoppage). He falls to 14-5-1 (1 NC) overall as a result of the loss. Later in the evening, the 35-year-old fighter announced his retirement on his personal Facebook page.

New opponent in Stockholm
LightweightUFC
May 8, 2019
Hein will now take on Frank Camacho at UFC Stockholm on June 1, Nolan King of Flocombat reports.
ANALYSIS
Hein was originally scheduled to face Luigi Vendramini, who was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. Both fighters are riding a two-fight losing streak, though Camacho's job could be a little safer given he was willing to step in on short notice. Camacho will own a four-inch height and seven-inch reach advantage on fight night, in addition to superior volume striking numbers. His striking defense is what Hein would be best suited to exploit, though that may be difficult given the large reach disadvantage.
Waiting for new opponent at Stockholm
LightweightUFC
April 29, 2019
Hein is in need of a new opponent at UFC Stockholm after Luigi Vendramini was forced to pull out with a knee injury, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vendramini has torn his meniscus and will be undergoing surgery to repair it, but the recovery period has forced him to pull out of UFC Stockholm against Hein on June 1. UFC is likely to announcement a replacement opponent soon, who Hein will look to defeat to restore a winning streak after losing both of his most recent appearances.
Facing Luigi Vendramini in Stockholm
LightweightUFC
April 1, 2019
Hein will next enter the Octagon June 1 at UFC Stockholm against Luigi Vendramini, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hein is coming off of a difficult 2018, losing both of his bouts in defeats to Davi Ramos and Damir Hadzovic to bring his career record down to 14-4-1 with one no-contest. A UFC veteran since 2014, he'll be matched up with Vendramini, who will only be making his second appearance under the UFC banner after he was a last-minute replacement for Belal Muhammed in his debut in September.
Loses split decision in Hamburg
LightweightUFC
July 22, 2018
Hein lost to Damir Hadzovic via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night 134 on Sunday in Hamburg, Germany.
ANALYSIS
Hein may have had some help with the judges to get even one favorable scorecard, as his opponent made him wear a tremendous amount of damage with his striking, while he consistently came up short or hit arms when he fired shots. Hein is a powerful striker with a strong Judo base but he frequently resorts to throwing just one strike at a time, which isn't particularly useful when you have trouble finding range. Hein falls to 14-4 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
Booked in home country of Germany
LightweightUFC
June 5, 2018
Hein will take on Damir Hadzovic in a lightweight matchup at UFC Hamburg on July 22.
ANALYSIS
Hein will look to bounce back from a loss to Davi Ramos in his last fight, and will get to do so in front of fans in his home country of Germany. He draws an opponent in Hadzovic that is just 1-2 in three UFC fights, and was taken down nine times in his last time out. Hein won't necessarily be able to exploit that potential weakness, as he averages less than one takedown per 15 minutes, but he does hold statistical advantages in striking volume, striking differential and striking defense. On the downside, he'll be conceding approximately three inches in height and four inches in reach to Hadzovic. Nonetheless, look for Hein to enter a slight favorite with more experience and and the crowd behind him.
