Cut by Steelers
Pittsburgh will release Peterson on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson played adequately for the Steelers last season, handling 1,045 defensive snaps across 17 regular-season games, but at 34 years old, the eight-time Pro Bowler isn't quite the player he once was. His release leaves Pittsburgh with a $2.9 million dead-cap hit, but the move clears up almost $7 million in cap space for the team.

Wants to return for 14th season
In an appearance on the 'NFL on Fox' podcast Thursday, Peterson reiterated his desire to return for the 2024 season, noting that he feels "like I still have a lot left in the tank and can provide, not only leadership, but playmaking ability to whatever team desires to have me on their roster," Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran cornerback has yet to latch onto a team for 2024. He had an up-and-down season in Pittsburgh, as he split time between his usual position at corner and safety and finished the year with 42 tackles, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. Peterson admitted that talks between his camp and other teams haven't been "really serious thus far," but the veteran pass defender could gain more interest closer to training camp.

Peterson appeared in every game with the Vikings last year and logged a career-high 66 tackles (56 solo) with five interceptions, the second-best mark over his 12 professional campaigns. After spending the past two years in Minnesota, the 32-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Steelers during the offseason. Pittsburgh also brought in cornerback Joey Porter via the draft, but Peterson will serve in a starting capacity with his new club.
