Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Robbie Ray, ARI at SD ($57): Ray's price may make some DFS players uncomfortable, but now isn't the time to fade him. The Padres hold the second lowest wOBA against left-handed pitching this season and have notched a strikeout rate greater than 25 percent. It is also worth noting that Ray has registered a 12.7 RAA with his fastball, while San Diego has logged a bottom five RAA against the pitch.

Jake Junis, KC at TOR ($38): Junis has been fantastic since the All-Star break, logging a 2.98 ERA while walking just four batters over 45.1 innings. He has started seven of the nine games he has pitched in over that span. The Blue Jays have logged the second lowest RAA in the league against the slider, a pitch Junis throws 31 percent of the time.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, KC at TOR ($10): Perez has done damage against lefties this season, as evidenced by the .230 ISO and 41 percent hard contact rate he has tallied over 126 at-bats. Meanwhile, opposition starter Brett Anderson has allowed a .510 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters over 37.1 innings. Perez returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing time due to an intercostal strain, so check to make sure the Royals decide to start him in a second consecutive game following the injury.

First Base

Ryan Zimmerman, WAS at ATL ($15): Zimmerman has kept a .244 ISO against right-handers to go along with a 39 percent hard contact rate in 2017. Lucas Sims has had trouble keeping the ball in the park against same-handed hitters, having allowed six homers over just 26 innings.

Second Base

Javier Baez, CHC at TB ($14): Baez needs to be considered whenever a mediocre lefty is on the mound, as he has tallied a .280 ISO and a .394 wOBA against southpaws over 118 at-bats. Blake Snell has thrown the ball well in spots, but carries a 1.3 HR/9 rate and has walked 44 right-handed batters over 98.2 innings.

Third Base

Luis Valbuena, LAA vs. CLE ($15): Valbuena has managed to stay affordable despite the robust .357 ISO he has tallied over 143 at-bats since the All-Star break. Josh Tomlin may be around the strike zone a bit too much for his own good, as he has allowed a slugging percentage of no lower than .472 against either side of the platoon.

Shortstop

Paul DeJong, STL at CIN ($14): DeJong has swung the bat better against lefties in 2017 but still holds a .229 ISO against righty pitchers over 301 at-bats. Rookie Davis has allowed a .592 slugging percentage over his 11.2 innings with the big club this season while notching a 4.74 ERA over 74 innings between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Louisville.

Outfield

Jay Bruce, CLE at LAA ($13): Bruce's low price is a bit surprising, as he has logged a .282 ISO against right-handed pitching over 358 at-bats while registering an 11.7 RAA against the fastball. Ricky Nolasco has fared surprisingly well against the platoon but owns a fastball that has logged a -17.4 RAA over 165.2 innings.

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU vs. CWS ($12): Opposition starter James Shields has allowed 17 homers to left-handed hitters over 50.2 innings while walking 29 batters over that span. Gonzalez is another mis-priced option, as he has notched a .231 ISO and a .389 wOBA against right-handed pitchers over 307 at-bats.

Yasiel Puig, LAD at PHI ($18): Puig has kept a reverse platoon split this season, having logged a .267 ISO against right-handers over 363 at-bats. This should serve him well in the matchup with Phillies hurler Jake Thompson, who has allowed a .604 slugging percentage to righty hitters over 21.2 frames.
