Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

CC Sabathia, NYY at SEA ($45): Sabathia has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his last eight outings, winning six of those. He has a 2.32 road ERA against a 5.29 home total, and seems to have a nice win percentage with the Mariners countering with Andrew Moore and his 5.25 ERA. Sabathia carries just a 16.5 strikeout rate outside of Yankee Stadium, so he'll need that win to approach 30 points however.

Trevor Cahill, SD at SF ($43): Cahill has quietly turned in a nice three months, owning a 3.14 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 57.1 frames. He's fanned at least seven batters in six of his last seven outings and eight of his last 10. He shut down the Giants over 6.2 frames in his last start, fanning eight while allowing one run, and the Giants continue to rank dead last offensively against righties, managing only a .290 wOBA, 79 wRC+ and .133 ISO. Cahill comes with a seemingly very stable floor, and his 29.9 percent strikeout rate on the road offers some upside.

Catcher

Welington Castillo, BAL vs. OAK ($11): There's potential for plenty of runs in this contest, and Astros' starter Mike Fiers carries a 4.79 road ERA (opposed to 2.85 at home) and .405 wOBA allowed to right handed bats. Castillo has a modest .308 wOBA against righties, but is clicking since the break, to the tune of a .408 wOBA and 158 wRC+.

First Base

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU at BAL ($19): It's going to be tough to fit many Astros into your lineup, especially with the depth of top-end pitching available Friday. In fact, two 'Stro hitters are priced higher than four bottom-tiered pitchers. One of those is O's starter Ubaldo Jimenez, who has a 7.01 ERA and has allowed 15 runs in his last 13.2 innings. Gonzalez has a team-high .420 wOBA and 170 wRC+ while Jimenez is allowing a .426 wOBA and an obscene 31.1 percent homer to fly ball rate to lefties.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, MIN vs. DET ($18): The price point seems to be the sweet spot for your keystone options, with six players checking in at this number. Dozier has a modest .317 wOBA and 95 wRC+ at home against righties, but he's shown well since the All Star break, hitting safely in all six games with two home runs and three multi-hit outings. He's gone deep three times in 32 at bats against Anibal Sanchez, who enters Friday with a 6.33 road ERA, where he's allowing same-handed hitters to produce a .392 wOBA.

Third Base

Yoan Moncada, CWS at KAN ($10): The upside of the game's top prospect is obvious, as are the risks of using someone of his youth. Moncada was more successful at Triple-A from the left side, hitting .308 with a .856 OPS, while eight of his 12 homers and 14 of his 17 steals came against right handers. Ian Kennedy has been better over the last month, but still carries a 4.40 ERA at home and is allowing lefties to produce a .327 wOBA.

Shortstop

Zack Cozart, CIN vs. MIA ($17): An offensive showdown could be in store Friday at Great American Ballpark, with the Marlins trotting out a struggling Jose Urena to the mound. Urena has a 6.92 ERA in three July starts, lasting only 13.0 innings and allowing five long balls. Cozart is in great form, going 7-of-10 over the last two days before getting a day to rest Thursday, and has a .387 wOBA, 136 wRC+, and .234 ISO against righties.

Outfield

Christian Yelich, MIA at CIN ($17): Yelich has been strong in Jul, posting a .380 wOBA, 134 wRC+ and .220 ISO against righties in 57 plate appearances. He offers a cheaper buy in that teammates Giancarlo Stanton and Marcel Ozuna against a struggling Homer Bailey. Bailey has allowed 14 runs in 7.0 innings at home, allowing five homers, three of which have come to opposite-handed batters.

Michael Brantley, CLE vs. TOR ($16): Blue Jays' starter Marco Estrada is in the midst of an expanded slump, allowing at least four earned runs six times in his last eight starts, resulting in a 9.50 ERA since June 1, where he's allowed lefties to post a .417 wOBA. Brantley counters with a .372 wOBA and 133 wRC+ against righties.

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. PIT ($16): Parra is absolutely on fire right now, hitting .556 with two homers, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored over 36 July at bats entering Thursday. He's thoroughly enjoyed the friendly confines of Coors Field, where he owns a .449 wOBA, 161 wRC+ and 1.072 OPS against opposite-handed pitchers. Pirates' starter Trevor Williams has a 5.13 road ERA and is allowing a .333 wOBA to left-handed bats.
