FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Gio Gonzalez, WAS at LAA ($9,100): While Jacob deGrom ($11,200) is the easy way to go, I'll take the cheaper Gonzalez, who provides consistency at a high rate. He's reached at least 40 fantasy points in six of his last seven starts (at least 6 Ks in last five) and is in a nice spot. The Angels have been one of the worst against lefties since the start of June with a .282 wOBA.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, BAL vs. TEX ($2,700): Castillo has looked good since the break with a hit in all four of his starts. In a good matchup, he should continue that streak due to his .335 wOBA against lefties. His 30.0 K% is worrisome, but Martin Perez has issues against righties with a 5.00 xFIP and much lower 13.7 K%.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, TEX at BAL ($3,000): There are pricier options to use, but I'm going to use a couple guys against Kevin Gausman, who has gotten mashed in his last two outings for 13 runs. Even better, Napoli's numbers against righties have improved with a .355 wOBA and .328 ISO in his last 77 at-bats. Gausman has bad numbers against both sides of the plate with a .381 wOBA allowed to righties standing out.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Descalso, ARI at CIN ($2,800): Descalso may see less time going forward with J.D. Martinez on the squad, but he should be fine today, especially with a righty on the mound. Descalso has a .372 wOBA against them this season with that number at .395 since June 1. As for Tim Adleman, he's given up at least three runs in his last five starts and has a miserable 6.17 xFIP against lefties.

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX at BAL ($3,500): Beltre's .374 wOBA and .264 ISO will come in handy, and more importantly, he has a low 11.0 K%. Gausman strikes out righties more with a 21.2 K%, but Beltre may not have to worry about that.

SHORTSTOP

Stephen Drew, WAS at LAA ($2,400): As Wilmer Difo played Tuesday, I expect Drew to return to the lineup today with a righty on the mound. Drew has limited time this season (84 at-bats against righties), but he comes at a great price in a loaded Nationals lineup. As for Alex Meyer, he has allowed a .350 wOBA to lefties to go with a 4.72 xFIP.

OUTFIELD

Trey Mancini, BAL vs. TEX ($2,800): We might as well use another righty against Perez because there aren't many matchups better than this. Perez made it seven innings last time out, yet still gave up eight hits and three runs. He's also given up at least seven hits in his last seven starts. After a slow start, Mancini's wOBA is at .347 against lefties in his last 64 at-bats.

Justin Upton, DET at KC ($3,600): Since the break, Upton has seven hits in five games. His better .231 ISO against righties will help in this matchup with Jason Hammel. The righty is conveniently worse against fellow righties with a 5.39 xFIP and lower 15.4 K%.

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. MIL ($4,100): McCutchen has crushed righties since the beginning of June with a .473 wOBA and .254 ISO. And while Zach Davies is racking up wins for the Brewers, he's given up 11 runs in his last three outings and walked five in his last start. Davies has a mediocre 4.21 xFIP and below average 14.5 K% against righties.
